Strong Storms Possible on Friday

Well the SPC does not have a defined outlook for Alabama on Friday a few strong to severe storms are a real good chance. as you can see by the graphic(for Thursday)severe storms are expected in and around the nations heartland. The teal blue area is a 45% probability of a severe storm within 20 miles of a given point, in laymen terms this will most likely be a moderate risk issued for this area. Even though the SPC does not have Alabama in a risk area as of yet for Friday that may change in the next 48 hours. This looks to be a daytime event and should come in between noon and 4:00pm and be gone for high school football. As you all may know our Fall tornado season is right around the corner and as for any storm system we get in Alabama any can pack a punch. I will have more tomorrow as new forecast guidance models become available.

Severe Potential This Weekend

Well we could be in for a dual threat of weather this weekend in North Alabama. The SPC has most all of north Alabama listed for a risk of severe storms (should know more on Thursday). With that said the threat of strong winds, heavy rain, small hail, Flash flooding, and even an isolated tornado could be possible as with any storm that develops in Alabama. Stay weather aware if you see flooded roads remeber to Turn Around Don't Drown. I will be in the field all weekend with photos, videos, and updates as warranted.

South Huntsville Storm

As the storm made its way north out of Morgan and Marshall counties I set up in a prime location to see anything that might develope. As some of you may or may not know an unwarned EF-0 touched down in Chilton county Alabama so I was ready for anything. Well it lost its punch and did not even put down as much rain as we thought it might. This storm rolled in like a lion but rolled out like a lamb. We could have a repeat again tomorrow and Friday.

Small Break In The Rain

Well I woke up this Morning to a small break in the rain which is a good thing. There has been alot of rain fall in the past 48 hours here in the Tenessee Valley. I personally have had 1.37" here in Madison since it all started and I am looking for atleast 2" more before it is all done. No extreme flooding is expected butsome flooding cannot be ruled out with some of the heviest downpours. No severe weather is expected with this system, but some stronger storms are possible as was the case yesterday with some CG lightning embedded with them. The HPC still is hinting at between 3"-4" by Friday but some areas could get more or less depending on the track. with atleast 80% chance for rain most days this week you can get rain any time day or night.

Wet Wet Week Ahead

The HPC has outlooked most all of Alabama for a good soaking for the next 5 days. Here in the Tennessee Valley we could get upwards of 3+ inches beforeit is over. by clicking the title above you can see the forecast for the next 6 days from the NSSTC at UAH Huntsville. With a chances at atleast 80% until Saturday it looks like it is going to be very wet. Flash Flooding will be possible remember TURN AROUND DON'T DROWN.

Looks Like A Wet End To The Weekend

Well it looks like most of the rain is running South of the Tennessee River today and Saturday should be mostly dry as well. With that said we can still not rule out a renegade shower or storm. The next round of organized showers and storms will be coming in sometime Sunday into Monday as a Coastal Low makes its way out of the western gulf to the north east. It looks like the bulk of the rain will still remain along the gulf and back to the west. The SPC has a 5 day outlook of nearly 8.5 inches near New Orleans, and here in the Tennessee Valley anywhere from 1/2 to 1 inch is possible. And also let us not forget the ones who lost there lives in the attacks on 9-11-01 GOD BLESS THE USA. The above photo (courtesy of Nasa) was taken from the ISS after the plnes hit.

A Day of Remembrance
Visible from space, a smoke plume rises from Manhattan after two planes crashed into the towers of the World Trade Center. This photo was taken of metropolitan New York City the morning of Sept. 11, 2001, from aboard the International Space Station. "Our prayers and thoughts go out to all the people there, and everywhere else," said Station Commander Frank Culbertson of Expedition 3, after the attacks.

Severe Storms Firing Late

Well there are a few storms out there this evening. A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for the storm that these cloud pics are from. I am in the city of Madison looking east towards the Gurly Paint Rock area. These storms are putting down alot of rain and even some pea size hail and winds up to 60 MPH has been reported. More storms could still fire this evening but should lose there punch as we lose the daylight heating.

Unsettled Week

Well the sun is now out here in Madison after a rainy start to our Sunday. No organized severe weather is expected across the US. As the upper trough weakens Monday, I think we’ll still see showers but somewhat fewer. Tuesday should be a mostly dry day this week as showers during the afternoon become the rule for much of the work week with an average chance of rain in any given area at 20%-30%.Temps this week should stay steady with lows in the 60s and highs in the 80s hunidity will be elevated though but tolerable. Right now at 3:55pm it is 76degress with realitive humidity at 62%. Have a great rest of the holiday weekend.

Jimena and Erika

Hurricane Jimena made landfall earlier today as a CAT 2 storm( just 48 hours ago was a 1 mph from CAT 5).Now Jimena has weakened to a category one storm as it moves along the west coast of southern Baja California. Bringing tons of rain to Baja and into parts of Mexico and it is forecast to take a hard left turn sometime Friday and go back into the Pacific as a Depression and could re-fire later next week. That is something to watch. And now closer to home, TS Erika is so unorganized that no intensification is expected, given the amount of shear that is present it would not be wrong to say that it may disipate all together. The top 2 photos are of Jimena making landfall, and the last 2 are of Erika.
