Peoples Questions

I have had alot of people ask me why they could not see the funnel all the way to the ground with the tornado in Huntsville. When a tornado develops it is consumed by dirt and debris, so when you see a large or even a weak tornado in the plains there is alot of dirt, clay, and debris when it touches down in a metro area such as Huntsville there is not that much loose dirt in the downtown area and that is one reason that the funnel was never visible all the way down. Anytime you see a funnel cloud look around the ground and see if you see any power flashes or even a little debris being thrown up in the air. Be sure before you report to EMA or NWS. Click the title for Waay31 live coverage of when it touched down and listen to the reports of it being just a funnel cloud.
