Watching Thursday And Into Friday
A major winter storm is forecast now for areas north of Alabama and to the West. as of right now the SPC has Issued a winter storm watch for from Eastern New Mexico, All of Oklahoma, parts of Arkansas and Missouri, and the Northern Texas Panhandle. This watch could be extended even further east into Kentucky and Tennessee by Thursday. Right now with the 12z run the current forecast is right on track with the system bringing heavy snow north of I-40 including Memphis and Nashville. We could see a brief change from rain over to freezing rain and sleet late Thursday into Friday morning, but not expecting any real serious travel problems YET as we are expecting a cold rain of 1-2 inches. Then as the system heads east there could be enough moisture left behind as the colder air invades North Alabama and we could see some type of wintry mix over North Central Alabama and as temps hover just below freezing we could see some minimal bridge icing but do not expect it to be a big deal. Just remember in Alabama in the winter time expect the unexpected as the forecast may change again and again.
