Well it has been a very interesting day. Although not much ice accumulated (less than 1/10th of an inch) it was enough to cause problems. Most problems today have been on bridges on overpasses as well as some less traveled secondary roads. Dekalb and Marshall Counties in Alabama have issued LOCAL STATE OF EMERGENCY due to icy roads. As you can see the little ice on my jeep is all I got at my home none on the roads or house. This will not be our last threat this winter and you can say we got very lucky as or neighbors to the north and east will not be so lucky.
Well the icy roads today have claimed at least 3 lives across Alabama today. EMT Laura Elizabeth Pullam, 29, of Lowndesboro, was responding to two motor vehicle crashes near mile marker 161 at Hope Hull when she was struck by a 2006 Chevrolet pickup truck. Pullam was taken to Baptist South Hospital where she died as a result of her injuries. The two deceased teens, 15-year-old Jami Alexis Pierce and 14-year-old Brooke Lee Ledford, were pronounced dead at the scene after being ejected from the 1997 GMC Sierra driven by 17-year-old Jesse Alexander Pierce after losing control of their vehicle that collided with an 18-wheeler on a bridge in Troy this morning. Pierce was also ejected from the vehicle and remains in critical condition at a local hospital. It was determined that the three teens were not wearing their seat belts. Our prayers go out to the families of the victims today.
