Nice Cold Snap Last Week

Well after a cold snap that lasted for 84 hours in Madison and brought snow and ice with it during that time frame it was still not as cold as it was during the cold snap on January 1st 2010 when i saw over 230 straight hours at or below freezing. Here is a blog post during that time.

Wow What a Cold Snap.
Well it all started on Friday January 1 2010 at around 4pm. My thermometer dropped below 32° and as of Midnight tonight it will be a total of 230 hours ago. I have recorded only 2.5 hours above freezing since that time. We are not forecast to go above freezing until Monday , and right now I am at 27.1° so it does not look to threaten the streak. So 227.5 hours of below freezing temps, an average wind chill of 14.3°,average temps during this span of 26.3°, and 2 nights of single digit temps. Yes I did fall victim as well as my neighbors and had frozen pipes, although I did not have any burst. We look to have a nice warm up (in the 40s) over the next week with a chance of RAIN by next weekend. This by far is our coldest in a long time. I do not think that it is at all over we could see a couple more chance of snow and 1 or 2 more cold snaps before winter is all over.

So let that be a reminder to us all, the cold weather we just saw could very well be just a precursor for weather yet to come. Stay warm, stay dry, and God Bless you all.
