Interesting Weather Ahead!!!!
I have been asked to try and do a post here at least once a week to let everyone know what they can expect the next week. So I will do that as well as post on breaking weather or severe weather as I always have. Be sure to follow us on Facebook and tell your friends across North Alabama. After a very cold start to the week with both Highs and Lows being very cold, we have warmed up nicely and today with highs in the 60s it is going to be window opening weather. Now the weekend a system will push through and we will a risk of showers across Alabama on both days, but we are not expecting anything very heavy. Just keep keep an umbrella handy just in case. Temps look to stay in the mid to upper 60s to near 70, yes I said 70. Now with temps that warm in January you pretty much expect some thunderstorms in the future and even thought we have a little model madness with the GFS bringing storms in on Wednesday the European (which has been more reliable this time of year)we will still forecast a chance of strong to severe thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon and Tuesday night as a strong upper wave coming at us from the west. Now at the moment forecast instability values look very low, but the models could very well be underestimating the low level warmth and buoyancy of the air so we will monitor it closely. I normally will post some model outputs but it is easier just to tell you what to expect right now. I will say the AO is looking to go negative towards mid month but the NAO remains positive but on the weaker side. With the AO starting to go negative it is possible the NAO could soon follow as cold Canadian air starts to move and the GFS shows a nice snow event around the 19th-20th, but this is all speculation and not a forecast. I will post updates on Tuesdays severe potential as needed so until next week stay weather aware and have a great weekend.
